41 Turkish soldiers, 116 FSA militants killed in Afrin Operation


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, March 2 (KUNA) -- Turkish Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli said Friday 41 Turkish troops have been killed since the start of Operation Olive Branch in Syriaآ's northwestern Afrin town.

Addressing a National Defense University graduation ceremony in Istanbul, Canikli said also 116 fighters of the Free Syrian army (FSA) have also been killed in the operation.

The Turkish defense minister estimated the total figure of YPG/PKK-Daesh militants killed in Operation Olive Branch at 2,295.

In addition, 95 percent of residential areas on a 615 square-kilometer land have been retaken, he added.

Turkey and FSA launched the military operation on January 20 to establish security and stability along Turkey's borders. (end) rs.mt
