Some 2,222 Terrorists neutralized in Olive Branch operation


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISTANBUL, March 1 (KUNA) -- At least 2,222 terrorists have been neutralized in the northwestern Syria region of Afrin since the launch of "Olive Branch" operation, the Turkish military said Thursday.

"Olive Branch" operation was launched by Turkey to remove the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), Democratic Union Party, and so-called Islamic State (IS) militants.

Since the launch of the operation, the Turkish army and the Free Syrian Army liberated 116 locations including one of Afrin's five towns, 88 villages, six smaller villages, 20 strategic mountains and hills, and one military base.

Meanwhile, the Anadolu news agency said the village of "Seyh Mehmetli" in the Rajo district, located northwest of Afrin, has been cleared.

Since Feb 26, a crescent-shape corridor stretching along the northwestern Idlib province and the Aleppo province's Azaz district has cut terrorists' connection with Turkey's border, the source added. (end) ta.ss
