Qatar's cabinet condemns Syrian regime's brutal attacks

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) DOHA, Feb 28 (KUNA) -- Qatar's cabinet has condemned the Syrian regime's continued barbaric attacks on Eastern Ghouta in a flagrant violation of a recent UN Security Council resolution.

This was the core of a statement by Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr. Hassan Al-Mohannadi after a government's meeting on Wednesday, chaired by Prime Minister Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani.

As the meeting kicked off, the ministers condemned the Syrian regime for carrying on with its brutal attacks on Ghouta, violating the UNSC's Resolution 2401, unanimously adopted on Saturday.

The resolution demanded parties to Syria's conflict to cease hostilities without delay for at least 30 consecutive days, ensuring a "durable humanitarian pause" to enable humanitarian aid deliveries and medical evacuations of the critically sick and wounded. Al-Mohannadi noted that the cabinet urged the international community to work more seriously and to take all the necessary measures for the implementation of the resolution to end the "human tragedy." It warned of further bloodshed among innocent civilians in Syria if it is not properly implemented, to stop the Syrian regime's defiance of the international law and the international legitimacy resolutions.

In the meantime, the minister voiced deep concern over the US intent to move the American embassy in Israel to Jerusalem by mid-May, coinciding with 70th anniversary of Nakba.

The cabinet renewed its rejection of the "illegitimate" move that goes contrary to the international law and the relevant resolutions by the UNSC and the UN General Assembly, Al-Mohannadi stressed. (end) nnd.msa
