Turkey: HDP MP to spend 10 years in jail

(MENAFN) Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) MP Selma Irmak has been sentenced to 10 years in jail by a Turkish court over "terrorism charges."

Antep Provincial Court upheld the decision by a lower court that sentenced MP Irmak to 10 years in prison for "being a member of a terrorist organization" and "making terrorist propaganda".

Irmak was arrested on 4 November 2016 and delivered her defense to the court via a closed circuit camera system.

Irmak's lawyers appealed against the decision to Antep Provincial Court. But the court upheld the decision of the lower court that sentenced Irmak to 10 years in prison.
