Kuwait's embassies continue national festivities


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Feb 27 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's embassies in Washington and Belgrade as well as the Delegation to the UN joined the celebrations of national days.

They organized functions to celebrate the 57th anniversary of the Independence, 27th anniversary of Liberation, and the 12th anniversary of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's assumption of power.

In Washington, Kuwaiti embassy held a gala attended by the large number of US officials including Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross, Secretary of Veterans Affairs David Shulkin, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway and Chairman of the House of Representatives' Foreign Affairs Committee Ed Royce. A plethora of heads of the foreign diplomatic missions in Washington were present at the event.

The guests were welcomed by Kuwait's Ambassador to Washington Sheikh Salem Al-Sabah.

In New York, Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi held a reception on the occasion at the UN headquarters.

A slew of UN officials, ambassadors to the UN and representatives of the Kuwaiti community in New York attended the event.

Addressing the audience, Ambassador Al-Otaibi congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Kuwaiti government and people on the dear occasions.

He highlighted Kuwait's balanced, moderate and rational foreign policy which was based on full commitment to the UN principles and charter.

Kuwait wanted to enforce these principles during its two-year membership at the UN Security Council, he noted.

He underlined that the achievements made by Kuwait's diplomacy in the past years were fruits of the initiatives and rules set by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah since Kuwait's independence.

He stated that the last time Kuwait was a member at the UN Security Council was 40 years and its presidency of the council came after 39 years from the previous one.

All over this time, Kuwait was fully committed to the principles of its foreign policy, he said.

He emphasized that Kuwait's liberation was an example of the success of the UN and its security council in implementing its principles and the provisions of its charter.

For its part, Kuwait had been a partner to the UN in the effort to achieve world peace, he added.

During the function, a Kuwaiti orchestra band played Kuwaiti music masterpieces and a number of Kuwaiti singers sang popular and national songs.

Furthermore, Kuwait's Embassy in Belgrade organized a reception to mark the national days.

A large number of dignitaries were present at the function including, Crown Prince Alexander II Karadordevic and his wife Katherine, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Telecommunications and Tourism Rasim Ljajic, Minister of Labor and Social Issues Zoran Dordevic.

The gala was also attended by a large number of foreign ambassadors and diplomats in Belgrade.

Kuwait's Ambassador Yusuf Abdulsamad conveyed his greetings to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and Kuwaiti people on the dear occasion.

He then shed lights on the steadily developing relations with Serbia, particularly on the agreements signed between the two countries for cooperation in various domains. (pick up previous) asf.si.amg.ibi
