Qatar backs united, stable Iraq


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) DOHA, Feb 26 (KUNA) -- Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim Al-Thani said Monday that his country firmly supports peace and stability in Iraq.

The Qatari Amir held talks with Iraq's chief lawmaker Salim Al-Jabouri, focusing on plans to improve bilateral ties, state-run Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

The Iraqi official said his country is thankful for Qatar's support, citing a sum of USD one billion in loans and investments Doha has pledged in a bid to restore stability to Iraq.

Governments from around the world announced nearly USD 30 billion worth of financial aid to Iraq in a recent Kuwait-hosted international conference on reconstruction in the war-battered nation. (end) nnd.nam
