Syria, Iraq discuss bilateral, economic ties


(MENAFN) Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Walid al-Moallem, and Undersecretary of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, Nizar Khairallah, and the accompanying delegation have held talks about the political improvements in the region and combating terrorism by Syria and Iraq, SANA reported.

Al-Moallem and Khailallah, during a meeting in the Syrian capital on Monday, discussed the renowned relations between Syria and Iraq and means of strengthening them in various fields to serve the common interest of the two countries and the two brotherly peoples.

Both sides' viewpoint agreed upon the need of enhancing coordination and consultation to confront the great challenges facing Syria and Iraq, especially in the field of security and combating the terrorist organizations, which constitute the main challenge that hinders economic development and threatens the unity and stability of the two countries.

Following the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed on the political consultations between the Syrian and Iraqi Foreign Ministries.
