Kuwait takes part in women regional, int'l meetings in Tunisia, NY

KUWAIT, Feb 26 (KUNA) -- Kuwait, represented by Women Affairs' Committee affiliated to the Counci of Ministers, is taking part in the 62nd preparatory regional meeting of the Commission on the Status of Women in the United Nations and meetings of the 37th session of Arab Women Committee at the Arab League, under the auspices of the Tunisian President Mohamed Beji Caid Essebsi from February 23 until March 1.
Chairwoman of the Committee Sheikha Latifa Al-Fahad said in remarks to KUNA on Monday that Kuwait's participation in such events is of high importance to benefit from the Arab and international expertise in that field.
This will contribute in empowering women in the economic, social, and cultural fields and strengthen their role in serving the society, she added.
The 62nd session of the Commission on the Status of Women in the United Nations aims at uniting the Arab nations visions regarding women affairs, as it will take place at the United Nations' headquarters in New York between March 12-23 under the theme "Opportunities and challenges", she added.
The meeting will also tackle the issues to be introduces by the Arab delegations, especially in the fields of achieving gender equality, empowering women in rural areas, as well as working on the advancement of women at the regional and international levels, she said.
Meanwhile, the 37th session of Arab Women Committee of Arab League will tackle the catastrophic conditions of the families and women in Arab societies, as they suffer from civil wars and political unrest, she added. (end) mrf.lb
