PARIS, Feb 26 (KUNA) -- A delegation of renowned Kuwaiti academics, researchers and intellectuals took part here late Sunday in a gathering to explore a number of important societal themes with relevance to philosophical questions and existential issues today, participants and organisers indicated.
The gathering, dubbed "Philosophical Questioning in Kuwait," drew significant interest from local and international intellectuals at the "Harmattan Arts and Culture Centre" where a lively "conference-debate" was also attended by Kuwaiti officials from UNESCO and the State of Kuwait Embassy in Paris.
Participants hailed from several Arab countries and from France and Europe.
The delegation from the Philosophy Department of Kuwait University has chosen France this year for one of its external programmes. Last year, the University chose Athens, Greece for a similar programme, organisers indicated.
The Kuwaiti participation included seasoned academics and researchers, among them Dr. Sheikha Benjassem, Dr. Amira Al-Bahary and Dr. Naheda Al-Baksami.
Kuwait's Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Dr. Mishaal Hayat and Embassy Counsellor Talal Al-Ghanim also attended.
The conference-debate focused on core issues of today's societies, with a special focus on how Kuwaiti philosophy addresses these questions and the specific Kuwaiti experience in this area.
Participants discussed philosophical research in the Arab world and the state of play with this ongoing work; they also addressed women's rights and freedom of expression, identify questions, art and esthetics and other issues facing the Arab world.
Pariticipants said the forum provided for an "excellent exchange" and a general agreement "to build on the work undertaken and maintain close contacts for further cooperation". (end) jk.hb
