Kuwait- Qatar welcomes UNSC resolution on E. Ghouta truce

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) DOHA, Feb 24 (KUNA) -- The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the Resolution 2401, unanimously adopted by the UN Security Council earlier Saturday, to stop hostilities in Eastern Ghouta, Syria, for 30 days.

The Council needs to continue working hard to provide immediate protection for the civilian population in Syria and ensure unhindered delivery of aid to needy people, Qatar News Agency quoted an official of the ministry as saying.

The official lauded the efforts made by Kuwait - the current presidency of the Council, to narrow the gaps among the UNSC members and ensure the much-needed humanitarian truce in the Syrian region.

The Council approved the draft, put forward by Kuwait and Sweden after hectic consultations to end the bombardment and airstrikes on Eastern Ghouta that killed more than 400 people and injured over 1,000 others.
