US embassy to open in Jerusalem within 3 months
(MENAFN) Following President Donald Trump decision on last December, when he announced recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of the occupation entity, the United States plans to transfer its embassy in the Zionist entity from Tel Aviv to Al-Quds (Jerusalem) next May, according to government sources quoted by the Associated Press and Reuters agencies on Friday.
Xinhua reported that the embassy will initially take place in the Arnona neighbourhood in a building that now houses consular operations of US Consulate General Jerusalem, said the State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert in a statement on Frida.
In the meantime, the US has launched a searching process for a site as the permanent US embassy to Israel, a process which Nauert described could be "a longer-term undertaking."
The embassy opening in May, much earlier than expected, will coincide with Israel's 70th anniversary, the spokesperson added.
