Doha: The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) has released a new video which charts the significant progress made over the last 12 months.
‘Journey to Amazing 2017' highlights the progress made across proposed stadium sites and documents the strides made in relation to all the SC's legacy programs, including Challenge 22, Community Engagement, Generation Amazing and Workers' Welfare.
The film also focuses on the progress made by key 2022 FIFA World Cup stakeholders. Doha Metro is now 70 percent complete, while projects to enhance both Hamad International Airport and Qatar's highways network, overseen by Ashghal, continue apace.
The main achievement for the SC in 2017 was the launch of Khalifa International Stadium. In May last year it became the first 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament venue to open when it hosted the Emir Cup final between Al Rayyan and Al Sadd.
SC's Secretary-General Hassan Al Thawadi, highlighted the opening of Khalifa International Stadium as a defining moment, one which brought the 2022 FIFA World Cup project to life
'Nobody will ever forget the launch of Khalifa Stadium, said Al Thawadi. 'The atmosphere was electric when H H the Emir cut the ribbon and officially declared the stadium ready for the World Cup. It was a spine-tingling moment one that made all our hard work so worthwhile. Al Thawadi said he looked forward to reaching more milestones in 2018 and beyond.
'We'll soon be launching the design for Lusail Stadium, which will host the opening match and final in 2022, he added.
'We're also looking forward to continued progress at all our stadium sites. Al Thawadi continued: 'Our legacy programs also continue to grow across Qatar, the region and the world. We have some incredible projects planned in 2018 and I look forward to more memorable moments on our journey to amazing.
