WHO: measles cases increase by 400 percent in Europe

(MENAFN) Europe's regional office for World Health Organization (WHO) has found a rise by 400 percent in measles cases last year, when 35 people out of over 21,000 infected people lost their lives.

The infection has brutally struck 15 out of the 53 countries in the region, comparing to how 2016 ended up with 5,273 cases.

People were mostly affected by measles in Romania, Italy and Ukraine, where they amounted for at least 70 percent of Europe's overall digit.

During a press release, WHO Regional Director for Europe Dr. Zsuzsanna Jakab stated "every new person affected by measles in Europe reminds us that unvaccinated children and adults, regardless of where they live, remain at risk of catching the disease and spreading it to others who may not be able to get vaccinated."
