WANA searches for climate change youth ambassadors

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN — The West Asia–North Africa (WANA) Institute is launching a contest in search for climate change youth ambassadors from Irbid, Zarqa and Balqa, a WANA statement said.

As part of the national competition, individuals from Irbid, Zarqa and Balqa between 19 and 25 years old are invited to submit a video or photo story explaining their innovative solution to a water, energy, or food issue linked to climate change in their area.

The 10 best candidates from each governorate will be nominated as climate change ambassadors and will receive prizes provided by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the statement read.

The youth ambassadors will then participate in a fully-funded capacity building programme conducted in Amman, which will focus on climate change science, adaptation, and advocacy. Together with community-based organisations, they will then take part in creating a climate change adaptation plan for their governorate, which will be shared with decision-makers in 2019.

The contest is part of a project titled 'Enabling Communities for Climate Change Adaptation Planning: Understanding Gender Roles', funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Jordan. The project aims to empower local communities to design their own climate change adaptation plans, taking into account the effects of climate change on gender roles in Jordan, according to the statement.

Candidates are invited to send their applications to before March 15, the statement concluded.
