Wellington, Jumada I 30, 1439, Feb 16, 2018, SPA -- New Zealanders have been advised to prepare for the impact of the remnants of Cyclone Gita early next week, as the weather system that left a trail of destruction in Tonga, Samoa and southern Fiji edges closer.
Gita, the worst storm to hit Tonga in 60 years, will most likely reach New Zealand on Tuesday and Wednesday and has potential to cause significant damage, dpa reported.
"A picture of the extent of damage caused by Cyclone Gita is emerging and it is clear a big response and clean-up job lies ahead. We are here to help our neighbours get through this," New Zealand's Foreign Minister Winston Peters said earlier this week.
