QFA chief visits Iraq

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) President of the Qatar Football Association (QFA) Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani yesterday visited Baghdad as part of Qatar's efforts to have the ban lifted on Iraq's stadiums. QNB Stars League CEO Hani Ballan was also part of the Qatari delegation which met Iraqi officials and toured some of the stadiums in Baghdad.
Sheikh Hamad had said earlier that QFA will request FIFA to allow a friendly match to be played between Qatar and Iraq in Baghdad. He had said that Qatar was more than ready to employ all its capabilities and that of its local and international partners to help Iraqi football.
Qatar also has plans to participate in a friendly tournament to be played in Iraq in March. Syria and Kuwait will be the other teams in the tournament.
He also hoped that the Iraq Football Association will host many tournaments in the future.
Earlier in the year, Iraqi Minister of Youth and Sport Abdul Hussein Abdul Reda and President of the Iraq Football Association Abdul Khaleq Masoud had visited Qatar as part of the same process.
