Syrian air defense blocks Israeli spy plane

(MENAFN) On Wednesday over the town of Quneitra, in southwest Syria, Syrian defenses confronted an Israeli reconnaissance plane and forced it to leave Syrian air space, state media agency SANA reported.

Tensions between the two countries have increased rapidly since an Israeli F-16 jet was shot down over Syria by Syrian air defenses.

Israel had been carrying out raids on Syria after it intercepted what it said was an Iranian drone entering its airspace from Syria.

Iran with Russia is the main military backer of the legetimate government of Al-Assad.
