Women, two children dead in illegal immigrant boat journey in Turkey
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, Feb 13 (KUNA) -- A woman and two children have died when a boat carrying illegal immigrants drowned in a river in Turkey's northwestern city of Edrine, Anadolu news agency reported Tuesday.
The boat, which was carrying 10 people, drowned as the illegal immigrants were trying to sail to Greece through Maric River, it said.
Search and rescue teams were attempting to recover the other persons, it added.
Three Pakistanis were arrested on charges of "organizing illegal immigration journeys," said Anadolu.
Turkey announced earlier today coat guards rescued 44 illegal immigrants off Izmir, western Turkey. (end) rs.bs
