ABU DHABI, 13th February, 2018 (WAM) -- Leo Doherty, a British Member of Parliament currently visiting the UAE with a delegation from the UK-UAE All-Party Parliamentary Group, APPG, described himself today as "very impressed by the UAE's innovative approach to governance, including e-Governance."

This was, he said, "something from which the British Government could take some important lessons."

Docherty, a former army officer who is also a member of the Defence Select Committee of the UK House of Commons, said that the UK and the UAE "have a shared past and a shared future."

In particular, he noted, "the UAE is a critical partner of the UK in defence and security and in the fight against terrorism, in pursuit of regional security."

"We deeply value the co-operation between the British military and the UAE security forces," Docherty said.

Docherty, who is the secretary of the APPG, has a particular interest in Gulf defence and security issues, having served in the army in Iraq and Afghanistan. He said that the APPG delegation "has been really pleased to see the stability and prosperity of the UAE, a country which we regard as a critically important partner in pursuing peace and prosperity in the region.

The seven-member delegation, which is being accompanied by the UAE Ambassador to London, Sulaiman Al Mazrouei, met with several Ministers on the sidelines of the World Government Summit in Dubai yesterday and visits the Louvre Abu Dhabi today.
