Jordan- FM meets UNHCR High Commissioner

Amman, Feb.11 (Petra) -- Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Ayman Safadi and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi, on Sunday, discussed the cooperation between Jordan and the UNHCR to meet the needs of Syrian refugees.

In a meeting at the Foreign Ministry, Safadi called on the international community to continue its responsibility towards refugees and assist Jordan to shoulder the burden of the refugees crisis.

He said the Kingdom bears huge burdens on the sectors of education, health and infrastructure due to hosting 1.3 million Syrians whose life and education needs must be secured by a sustainable international cooperation, pointing out that Jordan has exceeded its capacity with regard to refugees.

The foreign minister lauded the UNHCR's efforts in assisting refugees in the Kingdom, as well as the high level of cooperation between Jordan the UN organization.

Grandi commended Jordan's humanitarian role in assisting refugees and stressed the UNHCR's keenness to continue cooperation and coordination with it to address challenges of the refugees crisis.

He said Jordan had provided a humanitarian model for hosting and assisting refugees and the UNHCR will continue to work with its to help it meet the needs of refugees.
