Afghanistan: two arrested amid drug smuggling operation


(MENAFN) Abdul Hafiz Khashi, deputy to provincial police chief, declared 70 kg opium to have been found in a vehicle in Afghan northern Jawzjan province, leading police to detain two suspects on smuggling charges.

Khashi explained "two drug smugglers were attempting to take 70 kg of opium from Balkh to the northern Faryab onward to abroad but police fortunately discovered the contraband from a car on the highway in Jawzjan province and arrested the smugglers."

He also added that over 3,000kg of illicit drug, including opium and heroin, were found by police, leading a vast number of drug dealers to be arrested in the past year.
