Ingushetia plans to introduce direct flights between Doha and Magas

Doha: The Government of the Russian Republic of Ingushetia is working closely with Qatar to introduce direct flights between Doha and Magas, the capital of the Republic, to boost bilateral relations in various fields including economic ties, said Umalat Torshkheoev, Minister for the Economic Development of Ingushetia.

Speaking to The Peninsula, the Minister said that Qatar and Ingushetia are complementary to each other in several respects, so both sides can establish fruitful relations for mutual benefits.

Aiming to facilitate trade ties and people to people contacts, direct air connectivity between Qatar and the north Caucasus region will also help boost tourism, he argued.

Magas is well connected with mainland Russia and other regional hubs, but it doesn't have direct flights to and from Doha.

The Magas Oskanov Airport or Sleptsovskaya Airport is serving the capital city as well as the largest regional city of Nazran in Ingushetia.

'We are working to establish direct connectivity with Qatar. We have a very good airport in Ingushetia. In addition, there are three more airports within about 50km radius in our country. But direct flights will be instrumental in boosting trade, Torshkheoev said on the sidelines of his meeting with Qatari businessmen.

The Minister added: 'There are a lot of opportunities in Ingushetia for Qatari businessmen and investors. Our country has a lot of mineral and energy resources, natural beauty, rich heritage, historic architectural remains and others. We are looking forward to welcome Qatari investors with open arms for a win-win business proposition.

Torshkheoev, who was accompanying the recently concluded high level official visit led by the President of Ingushetia, Yunus-bek Yevkurov, said that Ingushetia is witnessing fast growth, especially in the field of agriculture, food processing industries. Cooperation with Qatar can play an important role in the country's efforts to become self-sufficient in terms of food.

He gave a presentation to the local businessmen with special focus on investment policies. He highlighted some of the most promising projects such as infrastructure and industrial development, food processing industries and tourism among others, where Qatari investors can participate for mutual interests.

'We intend to attract Qatari investment to Ingushetia and export some of the best goods, including food products, fruits and vegetables to Qatar, said Torshkheoev.

Asked about the response from the Qatari side, he said: 'The response was very good. It was a very successful visit. We have also invited the Qatari side to visit and explore opportunities in Ingushetia, which is expected to take place very soon.

He said that businessmen from Ingushetia are looking forward for partnership with their Qatari counterparts to set up facilities, especially for food processing and manufacturing sector in Qatar as well as in Ingushetia.

'Government is ready to allocate plots for factories and farm lands for growing food items. Some projects can also be implemented in Ingushetia with the involvement of federal institutions for the support and development of business, said the Minister. Some of the best investment opportunities are agro-industrial complexes, industrial production, tourism and real estate sector.

He also mentioned about some of the ongoing projects where Qatari investors can still participate, which include an aluminium factory, production of polymer pipes, production of energy efficient equipment, and a garment factory. 'Large projects in which Qatari business representatives can also take part include the construction of a greenhouse complex in a 13-hectare territory, construction of a poultry complex with a capacity of up to 10,000 tonnes per year, a huge orchard for growing apples, apricots, peas and plums with a projected capacity of more than 60,000 tonnes of fruits per year, he noted.

Some of the future projects, especially in the recreation and tourism sectors where foreign investments are attracted include; the development of hotels, housing units, cable cars, golf club, and recreational facilities for tourists.
