(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Cairo, Feb. 10 (Petra) -- Presidents and speakers of Arab parliaments underscored the important role Jordan plays towards Jerusalem and the Hashemite Custodianship over Muslim and Christian sites in the holy city, emphasizing that the Kingdom's role is a mainstay of official Arab presence in the city.
In a statement issued following an annual meeting Arab parliaments' speakers held in Cairo, they called for severing ties with any country that recognizes Jerusalem as capital of Israel or relocates its embassy to the holy city and demanded strong action against countries that voted against a UN resolution rejecting the U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel.
The statement urged the United Nations to lead the peace process, uphold international law, protect Palestine's right to sovereignty over all Palestinian territories occupied in 1967 and maintain the legal status of Jerusalem.
