(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TUNIS, Feb 9 (KUNA) -- Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi decided to extend the state of emergency of one month, from Saturday, February 10 until March 11, 2018, the presidential office said in a statement on Friday.
"The extension was decided after consultation with the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the House of People's Representatives on issues relating to national security, the situation on the borders and in the region," the statement added.
The head of state had extended the state of emergency on November 10 throughout the territory of the republic for three months, after a meeting of the national security council that assessed the security situation at the national, regional and international levels, in light of the first indications on the evolution of the activities of vital economic enterprises after having been placed protected production sites.
The state of emergency for a period of three months was approved on November 24, 2015 after the bus attack of the presidential security Guards in Tunis that killed and wounded 30 people.
It was then extended several times after the attack. (end) ksj.mb
