IAEA praises Qatar's role in promoting peaceful uses of nuclear energy

Vienna: The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Yukiya Amano, has praised the role of the State of Qatar and its continued cooperation with the Agency to promote the peaceful uses of nuclear energy in the world.

During his meeting with the State of Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al -Thani, on the sidelines of the annual reception on the occasion of the new year, HE the IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano expressed his deep appreciation for Qatar's contribution to supporting various programs and the Agency's projects, most recently contributing to the financing of the refurbishment of the IAEA laboratories in the cybersdorf area of Vienna.

For his part, HE Ambassador Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al - Thani expressed appreciation for the cooperation and expertise provided by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to Qatar and the aspiration to expand and strengthen such cooperation in the future and to accelerate the pace of Qatar's development programs and scientific development.

He stressed the keenness of the State officials to continue supporting the Agency to enhance its role in preventing nuclear proliferation and to assist the Member States to benefit from the nuclear technologies and implement their development, economic and social programs, especially in the fields of food, agriculture, human health and environment protection.
