Oman starts preparations for pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- After confirming its participation in Expo 2020 Dubai in October last year, Oman, represented by the Ministry of Commerce and industry (MoCI), is inviting firms to bid for design and construction of its high-tech pavilion.

Oman was among the first GCC states to confirm its participation in the Expo 2020 Dubai when it officially signed an agreement with the organising committee of Expo 2020 Dubai in October of 2017. The sultanate's pavilion will be designed to highlight the development and humanitarian achievements since the dawn of the glorious Renaissance. It will seek to highlight future aspirations with regard to the main theme of the expo - Connecting Minds, Creating the Future, and its sub-theme - Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability.

MoCI, on behalf of the main ministerial committee in-charge of supervising Oman's participation in Expo 2020 Dubai, on Wednesday announced that it was inviting companies to bid for 'first package of the consultancy services for Sultanate of Oman Pavilion for Expo 2020 Dubai'.

The documents for the tender can be collected by February 19, and the deadline for offer submission is March 7. The services required for the first package of the design and construction project of the Omani pavilion include software and multimedia design and programming, research and development in applied science and engineering, content research and development, architectural engineering consultancy and spatial planning.

In addition, the tenderer should also have expertise in environment, interior and experimental design, 3D imaging, animation design and implementation, digital and interactive design, photography and filming and project management.

The ministry stated that as the scope of the services required by the tenderer are multiple and diverse and cannot be carried by a single company or institution, interested and capable Omani companies and institutions can enter into a partnership or alliance between them or with non-Omani specialised companies to bid for the project.

According to the Expo 2020 management, a number of countries participating in the expo will begin working on their pavilions starting April this year. Oman's participation in Expo 2020 Dubai is based on the decision by the Council of Ministers. The Council of Ministers formed a ministerial committee headed by H H Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq al Said, Minister of Heritage and Culture and the membership of the ministers concerned to oversee and follow-up the preparations for the event.
