DOHA: Risk Managers from leading Qatar companies attended a seminar recently to understand the risks and opportunities arising from the increasing use of digital technologies, including Data Analytics, Blockchain and Robotic Process Automation.
Andrew North (pictured), Managing Director of Protiviti spoke about ‘The Business Imperatives of Digitalisation'. He demonstrated how business and society is already in the midst of a digital revolution, driven by increasing customer expectations which creates many opportunities; but also threatens traditional business models. By sharing insights from Protiviti projects locally and globally, North showed how some businesses have adapted and thrived, while others have been driven out of business by disruptive technology.
'It is vital for businesses to embrace digital technologies said North. 'However, this should be done selectively, usually by enhancing customer facing processes which is where most value can be gained. He advocates companies take a considered approach and formulate their digital strategy before embarking on major changes. The event was held by the Institute of Risk Management Qatar chapter at HEC Paris in Tornado Tower, with HEC alumni joining Senior Risk Managers and other guests. In a highly interactive session, North involved the audience in a lively debate using everyday items to demonstrate risks from the ‘Internet of Things' ranging from smart kettles to MRI scanners.
