Oman- OAA to set up three new training centres

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Oman Athletics Association (OAA) in its endeavour to promote the sports in the interior regions of the sultanate has decided to set up three new sports training centres.

A deal to set up these centres in three clubs – Al Bashayer, Saham and Quriyat – was inked between the OAA and the clubs' officials at a ceremony held at the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) headquarters on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Jahad al Sheikh, the OAA secretary, said, 'We are keen to promote athletics in clubs and as part of our initiative, we have signed a deal with three clubs today to set up sports training centres in the club premises.'

'This year, besides our national teams' international participation, we plan to organise 15 national-level championships. These events will be besides those events organised by clubs, schools, and other organisations,' he said.

Almur al Hashmi, OAA vice-chairman, signed the deals with the clubs representatives. Quriyat was represented by its chief Khalid al Aadi, Saham by Ali al Marzouqi, club's secretary, and Al Bashayer by its chairman Rashid al Hashmi.

On this occasion, Syria's Imad Sarraj was unveiled as the new national team coach.
