(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The sixth edition of Workers' Cup, the annual football tournament organised by the Qatar Stars League (QSL) and sponsored by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), kicked off in grand style at the Al Duhail Stadium on Friday. QSL CEO Hani Taleb Ballan and Marketing and Communications Department Acting Executive Director Hassan al-Kuwari greeted the players at the opening ceremony, attended by fans in large numbers.
Over 32 teams and 640 players, representing various companies in Qatar, including 12 former and current contractors engaged on the 2022 FIFA World Cup projects and seven sides engaged with the SC's flagship CSR programme Generation Amazing, are battling it out in the tournament being played on Fridays. The final is scheduled for 23rd March.
Shapoorji Pallonji defeated Gulf Contracting Company 2-0 in the opening match played in front of 6,000 spectators.
