Doha: As a precautionary measure against fraud, Ministry of Interior has alerted people in Qatar not to buy or sell gold jewellery without going through security and safety procedures.
The warning was published on the Ministry's Twitter account.
According to the directive, the buyer must ensure that the invoices must be stamped.
Meanwhile, in case of a sale, a ‘no objection certificate' must be obtained from the police, with gold or jewellery presented for inspection along with personal identification papers of the owner.
The NOC can be obtained at the gold sales offices located in the security departments across Qatar, in addition to the gold sales office in Souq Waqif. For this service, MOI levies a fee of QR10 that has to be paid by ATM card. No permits are issued for those below 18 years of age.
Women's Gold Sale Requirements:
Take the gold for inspection.
Submit gold bills if it exists.
Submit the identity card of the owner for the citizens and residents and passport in case of visitors.
Men's Gold Sale Requirements:
Men can take the gold for inspection only if the jewellery belongs to a first-degree relative (mother, wife, sister, grandmother) or a second-degree relative (maternal or paternal aunts).
Submit the original ID of the gold holder.
Submit gold bills if it exists.
In case of watches or gold bars, he needs to submit the purchase invoice.
If a representative of the owner of the watch or bar is sent, then the original ID of the owner and the invoice if it exists should be submitted.
