Kuwait- Ban on recruitment of Filipinos 'stays'

(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY, Feb 5: Labor Secretary of the Philippines Silvestre Bello III has affirmed that the temporary ban on the deployment of Filipino workers to the country remains in effect, because the labor attaché submitted a 'halfbaked report' on the cause of deaths of seven Filipino household workers.

In a report published Monday on its website, The Manila Times quoted Bello as saying that the labor attaché failed to comply with a government requirement to submit an independent report on his investigation. He explained the findings were based on existing reports from the Philippine Labor Office (POLO) and Kuwait's Ministry of Interior. He disclosed, 'I requested our labor attaché to come up with his own findings, not the findings of two separate agencies.' He is hoping for submission of the report within this week to decide whether to lift the temporary suspension on the issuance of overseas employment certificates (OEC) to Filipinos bound for Kuwait or declare a total ban. — www.manilatimes.net
