Kokan Mela: An event to celebrate Kokani culture in Dubai

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The people from the Kokan region of the Indian State of Maharashtra, constitute a sizable number among the Indian expats in the Gulf region.

The Kokan Mela, an event to celebrate Kokani culture was held at the Holiday Inn, Bur Dubai on February 2, 2018.

Sabina Shaikh Khot and Ritu Sisodia of the Solitaire Events organised this social event in order to bring all Kokanis together, to celebrate Kokani culture, tradition, dance and enjoy the Kokni food. It was a fabulous platform for Kokani home chefs to showcase their homemade Kokani delicacies.

The event evoked a huge response from Kokani community across GCC and some distinguished guests from Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and India also graced the occasion. And large number of Kokanis from Pakistan also attended the event. The event attracted more than 4,500 visitors as per the registration record.

The event was sponsored and inaugurated by Mr Bashir Hajwani, the Chairman of JMBR group and Kokan Ratna Award Winner. The large crowd enjoyed Kokani delicacies and also Lezim, a Kokani traditional dance. A replica of a traditional Kokani house was created and other items of the Kokan area were exhibited in it.
