UAE- CBSE changes assessment policy for Grade 6 to 8
Ashok Kumar, CEO of Indian High School Dubai, said that this is a good step forward as schools can now choose to follow their own testing system, as per national or international standards. "The curriculum can also be tweaked as per what the school feels is competitive for the students," he told Khaleej Times.
Schools in the UAE also stand to benefit from this move, according to Kumar. "The IHS also has several standardised tests... however, individual testing systems in schools would become clearer in the next two to three months."Following objections from the Indian child rights' body, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, the CBSE withdrew its policy of uniform assessment for students of Grades 6 to 8. According to Indian media sources, the NCPCR argued that the evaluation policy was in violation of the Right to Education Act.
An official notification by the CBSE on their website www.cbse.nic.in, it said: "As per the decision of the Governing Body of the board, the earlier circular regarding the uniform system of assessment, examination and report card for classes 6 to 8 stands repealed."
