QRCS holds orientation session for HMC doctors

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) held an orientation session for the doctors of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) to recruit volunteers with its future medical missions abroad.
Hosted by HMC's Medical Training Centre, the session was attended by Dr Abdul-Salam al-Qahtani, head, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head, and Neck Surgery and director of training at HMC and Board Member of QRCS; Dr Abdullah Rashid al-Naimi, senior consultant urologist at Hamad General Hospital and board member of QRCS; Dr Khaled Abdul-Hadi, head of HMC's Audiology and Balance Center and Head of QRCS's Haj Medical Mission; and Dr Khaled Diab, adviser, Relief and International Development Division, QRCS.
Several new and expert doctors listened to a presentation about QRCS's history and humanitarian mission.
They also learnt about QRCS-HMC's joint achievements over the past few years, as well as a list of medical projects planned for 2018. According to Dr Diab, QRCS has 17 foreign missions and offices in both Asia and Africa. 'The 2018 budget for international relief and development projects is QR537mn. These include His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani's Medical Scholarship Programme for Gaza Doctors, the Child Catheterisation Programme, and eye camps, among many others, he explained.
'Our 2018 plan includes four child and one adult catheterisation missions, six eye camps, and 12 miscellaneous medical/surgical camps. The scope of the plan covers 13 countries: Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Jordan, the Philippines, Somalia, Ghana, Niger, Palestine, Lebanon, Turkey, Ethiopia, Sudan, and South Sudan, said Dr Diab.
'We hope that more doctors of HMC will contribute their time and effort for humanitarian causes. It is not a matter of travelling to perform medical examinations and operations and then going back home. Your effort is needed in guidance, supervision, and strategic planning for new health centres and cancer hospitals, as well as training for local medical staff, he added.
Dr al-Qahtani emphasised the co-operation between QRCS and HMC with support from the Ministry of Public Health.
