Foreign Minister: Steps against Qatar affecting human rights

Doha: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met with the Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, yesterday. The meeting discussed means of enhancing joint cooperation in areas of mutual interest, and reviewed the latest developments on the regional and international arenas.

The Minister briefed the UN Secretary-General on all illegal measures taken against Qatar, their grave consequences for regional and international security and peace and their impact on human rights. He referred to the recent report of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights which described the measures taken by the siege countries as arbitrary and affecting human rights.

The Foreign Minister praised the role played by UN organisations in the establishment of public rights, justice and stability. He also reviewed the messages of Qatar which alerted the Security Council and the Secretary-General of the UN to violations of Qatar's airspace by the UAE.

H E Sheikh Mohamed also met with the Permanent Representative of the US to the UN Nikki Haley, the Permanent Representative of Russia, Vasily Nebenzya, Permanent Representative of China, Ma Zhaoxu, Permanent Representative of France, Francois Delattre, and Jonathan Allen, Charge dAffaires of UK.

Permanent Representative of Qatar to UN H E Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani was also present in the meetings.
