UAE- Emirati begins 327km run to raise funds for cancer patients
He is running a 327km distance from Fujairah Terminal to Zayed Port in Abu Dhabi.
By 5.27pm Saturday, he had covered more than 81km, according to the GPS track on his .The run is intended to help raise funds for Rahma and generate awareness of the benefits of both exercise and healthy living in the fight against cancer.
Dr Al Suwaidi is currently being accompanied by his coach, a physiotherapist, a paramedic and chef, who will travel in an RV on the entire route supported by two safety cars.He will pass through Khalifa Port and is expected to arrive at the Zayed Port by 6pm on Monday. Some officials are expected to greet Al Suwaidi at the finish line.
The 34-year-old hopes to bring some attention to the Rahma Cancer Patient Care Society, to help more patients receive treatment when their insurance cannot cover the cost.Al Suwaidi, the executive director at Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research earlier said he decided to alter his life around, change his lifestyle, get into shape and above all, ensure to never neglect his health again.
"I made a commitment to changing my lifestyle for the sake of both myself and my family. In the UAE we all need to consider our own health and the role of both regular exercise and good nutrition," he said. He will burn a whopping 40,000-50,000 calories, but is planning to consume 30,000 calories by drinking shakes and eating water-retention fruits to help him stay hydrated.Running for a cause > From - Fujairah Terminal to Zayed Port
