Jordan: Protests over Raising Prices

(MENAFN) People in Jordan took to the streets in different cities around the kingdom, urging the authorities to reconsider the decision of raising prices of basic elements.

The participants waved signs and chanted slogans calling for finding alternatives for raising the prices other than "the citizen's pocket".

Citizens carried out a march in front of the Al-Husseini mosque in the old city of Amman, and gathered in front of the Trade Union Complex calling the authorities to go back in its decision.

Demonstrations were also held earlier on Thursday for the same demands. The demonstrations took place in front of the Parliament in Amman, and in another cities including Al-Salt and Irbid.

The Jordanian government has raised the prices of bread-which is part of every Jordanian food table- fuel, cigarettes, and other commodities in January as part of its reform plan.
