Cotton imports of Vietnam surge in Jan.


(MENAFN) Vietnam has imported 140,000 tons of cotton of USD244 million last month, increasing 49.7 percent in volume and 51.1 percent in value against January of 2017.

The country has imported increasingly bigger volumes of the product in recent years to feed its growing textile and garment production and export.

Vietnam's cotton imports went up from 150,000 tons in 2005 to about 1.3 million tons Last year, in which the country spent over USD2.3 billion importing cotton, posting a year-on-year rise of 41.2 percent.

The country has obtained USD2.3 billion from exporting garments and textiles in January, up 7.6 percent on-year, mainly to the US, the European Union, Japan and South Korea.
