Kartli wind park generates over 7m kWh of electricity in January

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency ) Georgia's first wind farm, a 20MW Kartli Wind Power Plant, has generated 103,923,000 kWh of power since it opened in 2016 in central Georgia's Shida Kartli region, reports.

In January 2018 the plant plant generated 7,123,340 kWh, which is 723,000 more than expected.

About $34 million USD was spent on building the new wind farm in Gori.

The multi-million dollar project was funded by the Georgian Energy Development Fund (GEDF), a joint stock company established by the Government of Georgia together with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which provided a loan of $25 million for the project.

The EBRD has formerly estimated the country's wind power potential at about two GW; other industry sources have estimated the country's wind power potential could reach as high as five GW, which in 2015 was equal to about half the nation's annual energy use.
