Kuwait rejects assaults on Yemen's constitutional institutions


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) By Nasser Al-Otaibi KUWAIT, Jan 31 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait rejects assaults on Yemen's constitutional institutions by illegitimate forces in the brotherly nation, the Deputy Foreign Minister has announced.

Khaled Al-Jarallah, in a statement to KUNA on Wednesday stated, "The bloody conflict in Yemen, namely the killing and relocation and deteriorating humanitarian conditions suffered by the Yemeni people throughout the past years had prompted the State of Kuwait to partake in political efforts hosting the warring parties for three months of consultations to try and reach a political solution according to the Gulf Initiative and decision issued by the international legitimacy namely resolution 2216.

"The State of Kuwait which has not disregarded the humanitarian situation in Yemen has committed itself to offer humanitarian and relief aid estimated at USD 100 million (to be delivered) via United Nations agencies and Kuwaiti charities.

"Moreover, the State of Kuwait has launched development schemes through Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), exceeding USD 400 million to finance development projects in brotherly Yemen.

"However, flare-up of the fighting and conditions' deterioration have led to cessation of these projects' execution for which funds have been earmarked." The Deputy Foreign Minster added that Kuwait will resume the humanitarian action once conditions have been stabilized for sake of contributing to the forecast reconstruction, as part of the international community efforts to rebuild the infrastructure and other facilities demolished in the conflict.
