US extends Temporary Protected Status for some 7,000 Syrians

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Feb 1 (KUNA) -- The US extended the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for some 7,000 Syrians living in the country under the humanitarian program for 18 months.

"After carefully reviewing conditions in Syria with interagency partners, Secretary (Kirstjen) Nielsen determined that the ongoing armed conflict and extraordinary conditions that support Syria's designation for TPS continue to exist," said a statement from the Department of Homeland Security.

Syrians with TPS status will still be required to re-register for an extension of their status which would conclude on September 30, 2019, when conditions will be reviewed to determine if another continuation would be warranted. (end).
