(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Over centuries gemstones have enchanted and allured people. While some believe that they ward off the evil eye, many sport them as accessories or for good luck. The Sana Treasure Gemstone Stall at the international pavilion in Amerat Park is catering to this penchant.
The stall has on display a wide variety of stones from Yemen. It also has on offer a variety of jewellery items. Visitors can be seen looking through the collections with utmost curiosity. A lot of people besides just purchasing the items are curious about the properties of the various stones and how useful they can be for them. Some of the stones on display include jade, amethyst, emerald and moonstone.
Taha Jamal, the owner of Sana stall said, 'Gems and stones are a very integral part of Arab culture. We have seen kings and noblemen sport them for good luck and power to fight both enemies and diseases.'
The popularity of these items has not gone down even in the modern times. While some believe they help build confidence, others bank on them for their healing properties, said Jamal who has been in the business of gemstones for almost a decade.
'Yemeni stones are known around the world for their ingenuity and are hence, expensive. We have the best of the industries in Yemen where the best of the stones are mined.' Jamal explains how stones are given specific shapes and later polished.
'Skilled artisans use special type of instruments to cut each stone.' The prices of these stones start from RO10 and go up to RO500. The prices are determined with respect to the size, texture and quality, said Jamal.
