Istanbul orders release of Amnesty International leader

(MENAFN) Istanbul court has issued a release order for the leader of the Turkish human rights group Amnesty International.

The leader Taner Kilic was arrested in June on charges of belonging to a terrorist organization.

Amnesty has congratulated the leader for his release while guaranteeing it will carry on its efforts to help the other eleven detained activists and push for their charges to be dropped.

The group said in its statement "these unfounded prosecutions are an attempt to silence critical voices within Turkey but have only served to highlight the importance of human rights and those who dedicate their lives to defending them."
