Afghanistan- Highway commander among 9 killed in Ghazni firefight


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): A highway commander and eight insurgents were killed during a clash in the Andar district of southern Ghazni province on Tuesday, an official said.

Mohammad Arif Noori, the governor's spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the gunbattle took place between the militants and security forces in Jamal Qala area in the afternoon.

He said Commander Azizullah Fidai was killed and four policemen wounded during the firefights. Eight guerrillas were also killed and several others injured, he said.

Noorullah, a resident of the locality, confirmed the clash. However, he was unaware of casualties.

Zabihullah Mujahid, Taliban's spokesman, claimed Azizullah was among the 12 police officials killed in the firefight in Andar, where an operation has been ongoing since Friday. Only two rebels were injured, he said.
