PISMUN takes part in THIMUN Qatar 2018

DOHA: The seventh annual THIMUN Qatar Conference was held at the Qatar National Convention Centre. It was officially launched with a colourful flags procession on January 24 to 26.

Muhammad Moosa up held the flag of Kuwait as a Student Ambassador. Many delegates from Model United Nations (MUN) local, regional and international took part in the said conference.

The theme of THIMUN Qatar's ‘Gender Equality and Empowerment for Women and Girls,' was inspired by the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5.

Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. Providing women and girls with equal access to education, health care, decent work, and representation in political and economic decision-making processes will fuel sustainable economies and benefit societies and humanity at large.

During the conference, participants were engaged in a simulation of the UN, taking on roles as diplomats to discuss and debate international issues in order to develop solutions to some of the greatest challenges facing the global community.

Eleven delegates of Pakistan International School Model United Nations (PISMUN) participated on the debate with various issues.

Muhammad Moosa took part in (DC Disarmament Commission); Osama Iqbal represented (HRC-1) and he debated on the topic ‘Reproductive Rights of Women' which was passed successfully by a large majority of the house composed of more than 100 delegates from different countries; Saarim Khan participated in (GA6) and discussed the rising issue of terrorism; Shabir Ahmad took part in (GA3) and shared his views about the issue of cybercrime with solutions.

Marya Taj represented (GA1) and she conversed on the issue of recruitment of youth for extreme causes; Ummehaani Ali participated in (Special Committee-SDG 5) and she was the co-submitter in the resolution regarding the issue of ‘Gender Gap in sub Saharan Africa'. At the end, the resolution was passed with majority votes of the house.

Whereas, Mahnoor Shahid (Economic and Financial); Sumaiya Rizwan (Spec Pol and Decolonization); Aisha Farooq (Administration and Budgetary); Rameesha Khan (Environment Commissions) and Syeda Aliza (Human Rights Sub Commission-2) debated in their respected committees by engaging whole heartedly with the issues on the agenda and sharing their thoughts.
Mubarika Noman, PISMUN Director and Wasim Rana also attended the three-day conference.

PISQ Principal, Nargis Raza Otho said, 'THIMUN Qatar is a fabulous and a unique event where participants are taught leadership qualities and international affairs. Indeed, it is a great training forum where delegates learn the detail procedure of United Nations and offer fresh solutions.
