(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) In a bid to promote tent pegging among young riders, an International Youth (U21) Championship has been envisaged by the International Tent Pegging Federation (ITPF).
A decision to host the first ever international U21 event was approved at the ITPF general assembly in Khasab on Saturday.
The general assembly also witnessed the unanimous re-election of Oman's Mohammed bin Issa al Fairuz as the ITPF president for his second four-year term.
In his exclusive remarks to Muscat Daily, Fairuz said, 'I am honoured to be re-elected as the ITPF chief for another four years. In fact, there has been a consensus on all the posts of the ITPF board, which underlines the strong relationship among the members of the federation.

'We have elected three executive vice-presidents while the secretary-general will be named in the coming days after a meeting of the elected office-bearers.'
Buoyed by the success of the inaugural International Women's Tent Pegging Championship in Khasab, Fairuz said that the ITPF family was eager to push the sport among the young riders.
'We have taken a decision to make the ITPF World Cup a quadrennial event instead of it being a biennial championship. We are also introducing an International U21 Championship in 2019. The second international beach tent pegging event will be held in 2020 and in 2021, we will have the second women's championship. Following this year's World Cup, the next edition will be held in 2022.
'We have decided to move the third World Cup from Russia to UAE later this year. As Russia is hosting the FIFA World Cup, we did not want any clash with our event,' said Fairuz.
The Omani, who is the force behind the formation of the ITPF in 2013, said that in all likelihood, the U21 championship will be held in Oman with Duqm a likely venue.
'Since the formation of ITPF, Oman has organised all the inaugural edition of the world championships, beginning with the World Cup in 2014. We then had the international beach tent pegging in Masirah last year and now we are hosting the women's championship. Hopefully, Oman will also host the first U21 championship next year,' said Fairuz.
The ITPF chief said that the general assembly also approved the membership of Poland and Kyrgystan, taking the membership count of ITPF to 34.
Aussies pick gold
Meanwhile, the Aussie women emerged on top on the second day of the inaugural Women's Tent Pegging Championship in Khasab on Saturday.
Aussie women earned a total of 106 points to pick the gold while South African team, which had won gold on opening day, had to settle for silver with 99.
Sudan finished third with 86.5, edging Egypt on countback after the latter also finished with same points. Oman was fifth with 81 while Jordan had 72..
