Senior US official visits Baghdad


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Baghdad, Jan. 28 (Petra) -- The US State Department announced that Deputy Secretary John Sullivan would visit Iraq at the head of a delegation participating in the meeting of the High Coordination Committee between the two countries.

"The Deputy Secretary of State will visit Baghdad today, where he will head a joint delegation from various agencies to participate in the High Coordination Committee to strengthen the long-term partnership with Iraq and the Iraqi people," a statement from the US embassy in Iraq said.

"The deputy minister intends to focus on expanding economic relations between the United States and Iraq and increasing foreign investment to facilitate the reconstruction of Iraq after 14 years of war and the fight against terrorism," he said.

"Deputy Minister Sullivan will also meet with senior Iraqi officials to discuss efforts to ensure the eternal defeat of terrorism and regional strategic priorities", the statement added.
