Kuwait- Seven Iraqi security personnel killed in air shelling

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, Jan 27 (KUNA) -- Seven security personnel were killed in air shelling west of Anbar province, Iraqi police source said on Saturday.

The source told KUNA, the incident took place when a joint security unit attempted to enter Al-Baghdadi area in pursuit of one of the suspects, without coordination with other joint forces inside the city.

The source added, other joint forces thought the unit coming at them were from the so-called Islamic state (IS), and a military confrontation occurred which resulted in calling up two US military planes.

The shelling also resulted in injuring 15 others, among them Police Director of Al-Baghdadi and Al-Nahia Director.

US forces are stationed at Ain Al-Assad Airbase in old Anbar to support Iraqi forces when needed. (end) ahh.mb
