DOHA: Visually and audibly stunning. The Chainsmokers delivered a thundering show at their first-ever Middle East concert held at Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre Thursday night.
The American DJ/production duo's high-octane sold-out show saw nearly two hours of non-stop electronic dance music session featuring some of their smash hits. They mesmerised around 5,000 concert-goers as they performed their own songs live as well as surprised the adoring crowd with remixes of popular songs.
A massive pumped-up crowd danced, jumped and sang along with Grammy Award-winning duo Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart as they performed their original songs including Closer, Something Just Like This, Paris and Honest, among others. Greeting their fans from time to time, the duo were in high spirits with the rousing rounds of applause they received for every song they played.
The audience was impressed by the show's excellent entertainment value and high-end production combining great sound with spectacular lights and effects and mind blowing video projections. The concert has set the bar in Doha's concert scene turning a typical concert to a spectacle.
'This is definitely a show to remember. I love listening to their songs but watching them perform live is a totally different experience, said Anita, one of the duo's fan who attended the concert along with her two other friends.
Many fans took photos and videos of the concert which flooded social media threads in Qatar till yesterday.
The gates were opened at 6pm, one-and-a half- hours before the start of the show, but there were fans who arrived as early 4pm to secure a place near the stage. Concert-goers also enjoyed the glow-in-the-dark face paint, personalised engraving station and Instagram-friendly photo booth as well as various merchandise and food at the concert venue.
Since The Chainsmokers' breakthrough in 2014, the duo have spent 61 weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and won their first Grammy award for Best Dance Recording for ‘Don't Let Me Down' in 2017. The duo's blend of dance, pop, hip-hop and indie music have also led them to win two American Music Awards, four Billboard Music Awards, and five iHeart Radio Music Awards.
They have some of the most viewed YouTube videos generating billions of views. Their lyric video ‘Closer' has nearly two billion views since it was posted nearly six months ago.
One of the highlights of Shop Qatar 2018 organised by Qatar Tourism Authority, the concert followed the success of two shows including Lebanese singers Yara and Joseph Attieh's concert during the Arabian Week and Indian singing sensation Sonu Nigam ‘s show at the Bollywood Week.
Arabic music lovers are in for a treat with a special performance by Lebanese singer Ramy Ayach at Shop Qatar's closing ceremony at Doha Festival City on February 8 which will see the final draw. Live entertainment and shows are a main feature at this year's Shop Qatar. All the concerts and fashion shows presented during Arabian Week, Bollywood Week and International Week had seen huge response from the public.
