DAVOS — His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Wednesday, held separate meetings in Davos with French President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister of Iraq Haider Abadi. His Majesty and the French President reviewed the strategic partnership between Jordan and France and stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation in economic, trade and investment fields, as well as continuing coordination and consultation on various regional and international issues.
His Majesty voiced appreciation of economic cooperation between the two countries and France's support for infrastructure and development projects in vital sectors, pointing out to the importance of French investments in the Kingdom.
The meeting dealt with developments related to the Palestinian issue and Jerusalem. In this context, the King stressed the need to move the peace process forward, by launching serious and effective negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the pre-June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
His Majesty also emphasized that Jerusalem is the key to achieve peace in the region.
The meeting also touched on regional and international efforts in the war on terrorism, as part of a holistic strategy, in addition to the region's crises and efforts aimed at reaching political solutions to them.
During his meeting with Prime Minister of Iraq Haider Abadi, King Abdullah commended Abadi's efforts to achieve security and stability in Iraq, underlining the need to support Iraq in its reconstruction efforts.
The King reiterated Jordan's supportive stance to Iraq in its efforts to maintain its security and stability, and to realize prosperity that fulfils the aspirations of its people.
During the meeting, they lauded deep-rooted relations between the two countries, voicing the desire and to further expanding cooperation between them in all fields, especially economic and trade spheres.
His Majesty underlined the importance of working according to the Iraqi constitution to rebuild bridges of trust and understanding between the various components of the Iraqi people to achieve stability and prosperity for Iraq.
The meeting tackled efforts on the war on terrorism and the need to support Iraq's efforts to counter this phenomenon which threatens the security and stability of the region and the world.
